The 2015 murder of 38 people at a Tunisian beach resort by a terrorist inspired by Islamic State (IS) was a sharp reminder that disregarding the implications of earlier terrorist incidents in the country had not been a wise move.
So no doubt the Maldive knife attacks in 2020, on two Chinese, one Turk and an Australian, all claimed by IS, provoked the circumspection of government departments responsible for advising tourists on safety issues.
No one apart from The National Defence Force has any guns ever. Not even The Police has any arms. Legally The Police cannot bear any arms. Sure someone can smuggle in a gun but the country is so small and jammed packed with people immediately someone is going to find out.
There is more danger of someone getting injured by a road accident in Male or Hulumale than any terrorist act.
