Actually, this is good news in many ways. For passengers obviously. But also for mainlines. This places a much heavier burden on low cost operations, which have been very cavalier with these issues, than on main airlines, which strive for on-time and consistent operations. So, it kind of levels the field.
It will reflect on ticket costs, sure. Will make low fares more expensive, while having a much more minimal impact on more expensive fares; I can live with that. But more importantly, it will force airlines to be more careful, precisely when the push toward ever cheaper flying would have them going in the opposite direction.
All good stuff, I guess, if one is willing to pay the price at least.
