Recent Good Stay (Not Epic, But Overall Good)--Would Book Again

Thought I would post a current review here, since TripAdvisor reviews are all over the place.

Like many or most places in Europe, the hotel is on the small side by North American standards, in an older building. There are some up and downs in the hallways. The reception area is tiny, and complicated by Viking Cruise Lines check-in tables taking up too much space (kind of like at the docks, but I digress). It is close to the railway station in an appealing older part of town.

We were upgraded to a "Junior Suite", which I would describe more as a nice corner room with a good-sized bath. Perhaps larger than most, with a good street view. (But it is an older building in Europe, so don't expect huge). Bedding was very good. Bathroom and water pressure were good (other than the walk-in shower let water out the back, but then again the whole hotel industry no longer believes in shower doors). Clean, adequate storage, and a working room safe. Furnishings were good (except the armchairs were caved in--which was odd because they were not worn--perhaps past guest damage). So solid room if not quite perfect.

There was a small public lounge with coffee and a really good German tea brand. Breakfast was included as a Plat in the attached "Pacifico" restaurant. (Later in the day Pacifico is, of all things to be found in Switzerland, a Mexican restaurant). But for breakfast it was a surprisingly good buffet with very broad selection.

There was most of a full English breakfast, and some Asian, on warmers. There was a wide selection of good Continental baked items (which if you have not experienced them are different and a couple of magnitudes better than the average North America equivalent). As it often is accompanied by in Europe, there were deli sliced meats and cheeses, and an abbreviated salad and fruit bar. There were fruit juice choices (that were as usual better than North American standards). Omelets, other eggs, and pancakes could be ordered (the omelets we had were thin not fluffy and quite good). We were completely pleased with the food and the servers.

There was a hiccup with the card at check-in that I'm pretty sure was their in-house system, but the two young men checking us in were exceptional. The wi-fi was not great.

We did have an issue with our Cadillac "works anywhere in the world" electric converter. We learned there were three different styles of electrical plugs in Switzerland, and all of them may be unique to Switzerland . You might want to buy some Swiss-specific adaptor plugs. (Apparently the voltage itself isn't the issue; but the plugs are).
