A months old schedule change on SQ21 (EWR-SIN) booked for August, which we weren’t properly informed about, was enough to get a rebooking onto the ‘unwanted’ SQ25(the direct JFK-SIN), for -3days, and, negotiate a free change for SIN-YYY for taking the ‘unwanted’ flight. That sector was rebooked to way way beyond 7 days (& hey- 250 bucks a pop times 4 pax..).
SQ25 only had Z available with any PoS, we were in U. While not quite as straightforward as with US carriers, a pretty decent outcome.
Another data point as well --- Award Tkt though: One way itinerary: FRA-SIN-SYD Change due to SQ pulling the A380 out of service on FRA-SIN segment for 6 days over the holidays.... they moved me to B777 on same dates
The whole point of flying SQ was the opportunity to experience A380 (and I was flying separately from US to Europe to do so). First two calls to US number and next two calls to Singapore number... each call was fruitless, as they only would look at availabiility for original dates, and not consider change in origination from FRA to LHR. Third call to Singapore connected with a knowledgable/empathetic agent who listened to my issue and preferred outcomes (I offered a couple options that were acceptable to me). After several calls back and forth, agent was able to get approval to move me to flights two days earlier (there was not any availability for awards that I could see) which was before they temporarily pulled the A380 off of service for the FRA-SIN route, and with a bit of push back on my part to keep the SIN-SYD segment on an A380. The agent could not get the powers-to-be to allow a change in departure city.
