Notwithstanding that a 1600mi 4 hour flight doesn't exactly seem like a "short haul" I do agree with recline etiquette. However, when I checked the seat map with the on-line check-in, the Club cabin was only about ¼ full.

BTW, I attempted to check-in online, and change my seat assigment to 11C, but I got a message indicating that on-line check-in was "not currently available." But when I got to the check-in counter, the agent noted I'd already checked in. Scary web site.

And yes I'm also familiar with the European "business class". That's why getting an exit row on the left side was such a bonus. But the real bonuses for me are the extra carry-on allowance (very important) and the completely unrestricted ticket.
