Thank you for all the help!
Oddly the outbound no longer showed "cancelled", it just disappeared off the reservation entirely (!), and since it was a special type of exception, I got a refund, not a travel credit. I was able to re-book the one way on the return on UA no problem, and just found a decent priced fare on COPA leaving Nov 2 and a shorter layover PTY (about 4 hours)

All in all, it cost me an extra $700 because Copa doesnt allow me to select E+ seats in advance (and the more expensive fare had priority boarding too), so i decided to go for the Economy Full option.

If I had just taken the lower fare class, surely would have one extra bag charge and no E+ seats and I'd still have spent an extra $370 more overall.

THere were no other *Alliance options either except the 2 stops on Avianca

now just need to add my chihuahua!

Finally, it is hard to determine how many PQP i'll earn though. Its a COPA flight COPA metal, i entered my MP # and I am GOld
