This is a new one. I am on the last few days to cancel my VentureX and have the $395 fee refunded. I have no retention offers but have been with the card since its launch and spend a great deal on the card. I also have the AMEX Platinum so I'm fine to cancel and just lean into that one for travel lounges. To keep my miles alive (I have over 50,000 atm), I applied for the Venture with that sign up bonus. I had assumed it would be approved, the account would appear to keep rewards in tact, then I could cancel the X and move forward. It was denied because: "Based on your application information, you have previously earned a spend bonus on a Venture suite product". I earned my bonus in February/March 2022 so I am technically outside the 48-month window. I called to appeal but got nowhere. So....the lesson I learned is that 48-months does not mean 48-months to the date and their counting is mysterious.

If I cancel the VentureX, does anyone know what will happen to a future CapOneTravel hotel booking, for which I prepaid? The hotel happens to be one the CapOne Premium Collection properties. I asked an agent (the one who looked for retention offers when I discussed closing) and she said that CapOne could cancel it and keep my money (which is v. odd and I think obviously not correct), but I wrote to the hotel directly and they replied that I did not need to show my VentureX at check in to receive the benefits on my rate, since I prepaid. I only needed some credit card for the usual hotel deposit for spending. I separately called CapOne Travel and asked what happens to future hotel booking if the card is closed and they replied 'nothing happens'. Just doing due diligence to see if anyone has any experience with this.

Online, I do have the option to switch my card to the free VentureOne. Can this one transfer to airline partners or redeem for travel purchases at the same rate as the X? Otherwise, I need to decide quickly what to do with my miles if I cancel by the end of today to refund the $395 fee.
