I highly doubt that the information they gave you was correct. The LP bonus % has always been something that just automatically triggered in the past when you hit the qualifying threshold and I find it hard to believe they'd change it so that you have to register to use it.

I'm on the phone with the AAdvantage CS team right now. They confirmed with what Social Media said, must register within 30 days of reaching 60k LPs. It sounds like they haven't set up the website correctly, they are sending a support ticket off to see if this issue can get fixed.
