American Airlines refund applied to wrong tickets repeatedly – unresolved balance rem
I am sharing this in case others have experienced something similar, and also in the hope it prompts proper internal review.
This matter has now been escalated across customer service, executive channels, and regulators, but remains unresolved.
In summary:
• American Airlines charged me for replacement tickets following an airline-caused issue
• When processing the refund, AA repeatedly applied the refund to the wrong tickets and the wrong transaction
• This has been pointed out multiple times with supporting evidence
• A partial refund was issued, but the remaining balance of USD 1,699 is still outstanding
The core issue is not delay, it is misapplication. The refund process has consistently been directed at the wrong booking and payment path, which is why the matter remains open.
Despite multiple escalations and clear documentation, the error has not been corrected.
At this stage I have:
• Escalated internally to senior leadership
• Filed with the US Department of Transportation
• Submitted through Elliott Advocacy
• Documented the full timeline publicly
I would be interested to know if anyone here has seen similar behaviour where refunds are applied to the wrong tickets or transactions, and how it was ultimately resolved.
This should be a straightforward reconciliation, yet it continues unresolved.
