If the value drived from the HH or HP redemption is good enough and I need a stay there, I honestly don't care where I redeem my points.
A point redeemed at good value always beats a point devalued in my account while waiting for the perfect opportunity to redeem it at an "aspirational" property.
That's my attitude as well. If I can pay in points instead of dollars, I almost always do, unless the redemption rate is total crap. I've a ton of Marriott points on TownPlace Suites and Courtyards in the middle of nowhere on road trips.
