Even more hilariously: the pre-roll advertisements are in 4K! But the actual movie or television content is 1080P at best (including trailers).
United needs to rectify this before launching international service next month. Who wants to bet it’ll take at least a year, if not longer?

I’m sure there are internal costs involved with changing workflows for having two sets of resolution for the content to package up for the IFEs. Also the external cost. If it is like the consumer streaming pricing tiers where the 4K content is priced higher, I’m sure United would have to pay more to get 4K versions of IFE content.
