Maybe I'm missing something here but if you and your companion each booked your own tickets, your companion is not entitled to E+. You would have had to have booked your own tickets because you can't book two different classes of service on the same PNR. They need to be booked together for everyone to receive your benefits. As others have said, you can always call and United can do things you can't.
