Airlines like to collect API (passport etc) data before you check in, but it's actually only required before the plane departs. So unless you feel compelled to do it now, just wait for check in - the agent at the desk or some self-service kiosk will scan the MRZ (machine readable zone) of your passport and it will be done in a matter of seconds.
