Yes, I believe it was the same error message each time. I saw the pending charges on the CC a few days ago, but I figured they were just 'artifacts' of the failed transaction and would clear eventually.

When you ask for a refund, provide the ticket number of the other ticket. Assuming exact same trip, that should help get the refund.
I did not put my new ticket number in the request, since it is on 014 ticket stock (AC). I don't know if UA agents would be able to see that, or even care.

They can recall the details and purchase without you needing to provide trip details (and preserves special account discounts if any)
