It is a bit incongruent to generally say "no cost cuts planned - we're in a great spot, no worries!" and also mention that if jet fuel stayed at current prices, costs would increase by over double the highest profit United has ever earned...
At the same time, you can't really expect a CEO to be transparent about contingency plans before they're necessary. At some point when things get bad enough (sustained fuel cost increases, increased pricing, and the resultant drop in demand for a sustained period), you inevitably need to reduce capacity which, if paired with a recession, requires staffing level changes. Anyone should be able to see this is a possible future. However, today you need your employees to stay focused and operate against the existing plan so creating panic or focusing on the worst case isn't really helpful (certainly from an executive standpoint).
