JAL is undertaking several changes to its domestic services beginning in April 2026, including expansion of First Class to routes "nationwide," introduction of the 737-8 (with First Class), new lounges opening at Haneda in the fall, renaming the Diamond Premier Lounge to "First Class Lounge," and launching a new & improved app.

One other change to First Class is that meals on shorter routes will change to bento box service. (Longer routes will still get meals served on china.) To me this sounds like a downgrade. It sounds like JAL is moving closer to the ANA model by cheapening the product but putting it on more routes. I think we can expect downgrades to the drink selection, too. I'll be surprised if JAL can source enough Mori Izo for a full nationwide network of First Class flights.

JAL keeps giving me more and more reasons to move to ANA...
Yeah, it does sound like the JAL short haul routes would get something like what ANA serves on their longest routes with the bento concept.

I don't think it is a problem to cater these flights with Mori. It is odly enough not a frequently requested items on the flights I take. I'd say various non alcoholic drinks top the list, followed by champagne and beer. Not that I count but I kind of find it intersting to look at bit at what is being brought out.

The 737-8 F seat looks pretty swanky.
