The latest DOT Air Travel Consumer Report is out and shows what many of us who fly a lot already know: Delta's reliability sucks of late.
In December, the Delta Air Lines network (Delta+Delta Connection) placed 6th out of the 10 largest US airlines. Southwest, United, Alaska, Hawaiian and American all managed a higher on time arrival percentages. By operating carrier, Delta was 5th with a 72.3% on time percentage. For the full year 2025, Delta was second behind Hawaiian.
For cancellations, Delta fared even worse in December, beating only Frontier, JetBlue and Spirit. Delta canceled 4.5 times more flights than Southwest, 2.5 times more flights than United and 1.7 times more flights than American. 2.7 percent of all Delta-branded flights were canceled. Delta Connection canceled a lower percentage of flights than mainline. For the full year, Delta was 6th out of 10, cancelling a higher percentage of flights than Allegiant, Hawaiian, Southwest, Alaska and United.
Delta also violated the 3 hour tarmac delay rule 22 times in December, more than any other carrier.
