The practice for status extensions is less formal than the tickets refunds / changes policy. And your friends my be confusing the two different situations.

Did the letter(s) address the situation of your in addition to your relative? How did you certify your role? and the no other was available? How the letters were written are important.

If you have booked a lot of tickets you should be able to meet the challenge quickly, tickets booked before the challenge , if flown in the challenge period, will count.
