If the flight were to get un-delayed then AA would typically do it tonight/overnight such that there is ample notice time. With late arriving crew from the night before they will know exactly when tomorrow's flight can depart as soon as the presumably delayed incoming flight arrives at STL tonight.

In an instance like this they are not going to all of the sudden find a new crew at 7am and decide to reinstate the original 8am departure time.

So if you were to miss it then yes it would technically be your fault, although given the situation it should be no problem to get an agent to flat tire rebook you onto a later option.

If it did change to an earlier time, then you would need to call or have an agent rebook you back to your original connecting flight.
