Camping out at a hotel to kill time before a flight?
Just looking to hear from others and get advice.
I am flying out of Minneapolis at around 8:30 PM in a few days.
My hotel offers late checkout, when available, for a fee. Normal checkout time is 12:00 PM. I called last night and, when late checkout is available, they offer the following rates:
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM is complimentary
1:00 PM but before 3:00 PM is $35.00 plus tax
3:00 PM but before 5:00 PM is $50.00 plus tax
I don't think those rates seem unreasobable, so I may just pay $50.00, hang out in the room until 4:45 PM. checkout, and grab the complimentary hotel shuttle at 5:00 PM to the airport, where I can clear security, and spend the remaining 2-3 hours at the Delta Sky Club before flying out.
The hotel is pretty new and also advertises space for corporate meetings. They have around 5-7 rooms of various sizes. My other option was going to ask someone at the front desk the morning of checkout, if I could wait in a meeting roon and read, scroll, watch a movie, for a few hours, in case late checkout is not available.
My third option would be to buy lunch at their restaurant and hng out at a table, with their permission, for 4-5 hours, before catching the 5:00 shuttle to the airport.
I've stayed at this property before, it's mid-level, not fancy, but well-maintained.
Just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience where they camp out to kill time before a flight. One of the Hilton resorts has a decent executive lounge which is empty between breakfast and their evening reception. I wouldn't feel too awkward, asking if I could stay in the lounge for a few hours after checkout, if I had to,, but meybe this is terrible etiquette.
Thought about just leaving the property entirely and going somewhere, but the shuttle is convenient, and reliable, and, if weather is poor, it would make more sense to stay onsite.
