You'd have one ticket, but that ticket can have multiple fares (e.g. if there's no PE fare that allows JFK-TNR on AF, you have to end-on-end combine a JFK-CDG and a CDG-TNR fare: it's generally going to be more expensive than it would be if there was a through fare).
