Agreed. This announcement is silly - half of us (who would have retained Gold under the previous scheme) will drop from Gold to Silver in 1.5 months then, with the same flying patterns, likely requalify for Gold in the next earning year...unless the flyer hasn't already left BA/AA/etc completely.

My prediction is the following, sometime in the next few weeks we will find that they are extending either everyone or most people by a year, the Gulf/Iran crisis will be the excuse. The hope being that the latest "bonuses" will placate people, they will not, They should have just taken the old system, maybe added a minimum spend, and been done with it.
