Either you want the flight or you don't. Why do you need 48 hours to figure that out? Even if you book and then decide you don't want it after more than 24 (or 48) hours you can cancel for free, so what gives??
If I'm not entirely sure I want the reservation, I just put on hold. I often book with credits, and it's a pain to keep track of them when cancelling within 24 hr (even worse when combining with new funds from CC). Last few times when doing this, I've gotten an email with the new Trip Credit info, but it doesn't show back up in my account, so I have to keep track of it separately.
