I was there - VERY softball question about Executive Club changes to which Sean responded:
- positioned changes around “fairness” - someone paying £40k for holiday now gets status (who is doing £40k solo holiday, Sean?!) where they might not have in the past
- claimed program is better because there are more tier earning opportunities through holidays, Amex, and non-travel earning
- stated other airlines, particularly U.S. ones, have already made the change to revenue-based programs and everyone else is following/will follow
- used example that grocery store “wouldn’t reward you for number of items in basket instead of spend at the till” as comment about people who were maxing status through distance versus revenue
- claimed that top tier status numbers will be similar, lower tiers will be larger and there is “some churn”
- acknowledged that change is difficult
