American Airlines Mastercard credit card is moving from Barclay’s to Citi on April 27. I just received a mailing from Citi today and checked the new benefits online. Unless I am misreading things, it appears the new Citi cards will no longer provide car rental insurance coverage. If this is true, this is a loss. Also appearing to go away is enhanced trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance, baggage delay insurance and travel accident insurance. The Citi card does come with 90 day damage and theft protection for some purchases with the card, and extended warrantee coverage.
For me, the car rental insurance coverage was the most important benefit and I am sorry to see it go.
Do you not have another credit card which offers rental-car coverage -- either primary or secondary? There are some such cards which offer more than one point per dollar on car rentals.
