Seems ITA has been very vague on the current Middle East disruption. Unlike many other airlines which are offering flexibility for the next few weeks, ITA have only cancelled TLV flights (through 4/2) and DXB flights (through 3/15) and refuse to make any changes beyond cancelled flights.
I am scheduled to fly DXB-FCO-USA in late March and called the call center this weekend to try and understand the policy further. After 90 mins on hold, an agent told me that if the DXB-FCO segment is cancelled, I could choose a list of alternate airports to originate, including RUH, DEL, TLV!, CAI, LCY, RHO and maybe 2-3 others. Seemed a very random list and many of these airports are suffering similar disruption.
Does anyone have the actual policy or first hand experience? I asked for ATH or IST and was told, even if my DXB segment was cancelled, it would be out of policy. I also asked about originating FCO and again, told out of policy.
Any first hand experiences with how this may be handled?
