Does anyone know if AC would let me switch me onto another flight in J that day, even if R space isn't available? The only way you're going to get the answer you want is by emailing the concierge. I can't fathom any res agent helping you out here.
I'm not even sure what the policy is in this situation, but it doesn't hurt to try.
If you stay on the flight and it gets switched back, it's going to be J16 (because I have no faith in their system to automatically move people who were already paid J back to their ticketed cabin), and I suspect there will be R space, so it should be an easy upgrade.
