Well, if you're going north this won't be of much interest but organ pipes cactus national monument has memorable desert scenery, this with tucson, tombstone can be fun route. But south of phoenix, so not so good if set on going to canyon, maybe next trip. You can also duck across the border if you have time and drive down to the sea of cortez, closer than you think from organ pipes.
