Stayed here four nights last month. First stay in this property.

As others noted upthread, staff here are awesome.

The rooms have some design touches that we really appreciated. For example there is a “night lighting” mode which has just enough strategically-located lights to permit navigation to the toilet at night. By strategically-located I mean, for example, a small light at the head of the bed, maybe 6” above the floor, aimed at the floor area around one side of the bed, and another in the compartment with the toilet (separate from the shower). Not bright enough to interfere with sleep, just bright enough to keep you from running into furniture.

Likewise, as others have noted, the materials used in the rooms for flooring and sinks seem to be wrong. The bathroom floor showed a fair amount of water damage from shower leakage, and whatever stone they used for the sinks was failing/cratering here and there. More to it, our room had no folding suitcase stands, so we were opening bags on the floor (the bedding is white, I couldn’t put my suitcase on it). The carpet showed stains here and there. Finally the wall around the beds has a cutout for outlets, lighting controls, and drapery/blinds controls. The top of this cutout puts a sharp corner right at head level which can get you if you carelessly roll out of bed.

The Apkujung neighborhood around the hotel is great for foodies with many places that can be walked to, or are within one subway stop from Apkujung Station (think Shinsa Dong). Koreans mainly use Naver instead of Google Maps, and the Naver Maps app has solid support for English (at least on iOS). You can find many highly-rated restaurants on Naver in the immediate hotel environs. There is a Blue Bottle Coffee in the hotel building and a Starbucks across the street from the back entrance to the hotel. Exit 3 from Apkujung Station is literally immediately north of the hotel property.

We didn’t eat in any of the hotel restaurants but I had a few pints of draft beer in the second-floor restaurant.

The one complaint that we had was the room was just way too warm. Apparently they do not operate the cooling system in cold weather, and you can’t really turn the heat off. You can switch off the in-room thermostat but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. All you can do is open a window. Thankfully our room had one which opened, because the default temperature inside was around 78 degrees (25.5C) with the heater “off.” With the window open we could get the room down to about 72 degrees (22C). First-world problem, for sure, but I sleep much better when it is cooler.

Would we return? Maybe. Depends on the season and whatever other options are in play.
