Digging this thread up with a related issue: I've just bought a JAL "I" class ticket to Europe which includes NGO-HEL-LHR on Finnair, and AY's MMB is trying to charge me for seat selection.
I've used this same "I" ticket from JAL many times before (but on AY from HND) and never been charged. Any ideas if this is something new or a bug as has been mentioned?
JL flight numbers I guess. You should be able to assign seats on JL's MMB. It used to be a bit challenging, but recently I have had success with it.
On the JAL flight numbers, there should not be a seat selection charge. When you go to the AY MMB, you use the native number, and no quite knowing how they see that in their system. Alternatively, call JAL.
