SWISS: Golf bag in lieu of checked bag in Economy Classic?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip from Stockholm (ARN) to Zurich (ZRH) and I'm looking for some clarification on SWISS’s current golf baggage policy.

I intend to book an Economy Classic fare, which includes 1 piece of checked baggage (23kg). I want to bring my golf bag as my only piece of checked luggage (no other suitcase).

The SWISS website states: "Other normal sports equipment, we are happy to transport for no extra charge, providing you do not exceed your baggage allowance. If your sports equipment exceeds your baggage allowance in number of items or weight per item, you will be charged an extra fee."
Notably, the size is not explicitly mentioned in this wording.

However, in a different place they state: "You may also transport your golf equipment in lieu of the free baggage allowance of your fare type, provided it does not exceed the size and weight restrictions of your free baggage allowance."
Here size is stated.
Obviously, a golf bag will never meet the normal 158cm (L+W+H) size requirement of a checked bag, which makes the whole offering mute if this size restriction would indeed be applied.

So this leaves me confused and I was wondering if anyone has recently traveled with SWISS on a Classic fare and successfully checked a golf bag as their primary piece of luggage without paying a fee?
Is there anything else I should be aware of regarding the "in lieu of" policy at the check-in counter?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Best,
Moritz
