22 is the Boeing customer code for United Airlines. In other words, a 777-222 is a Boeing 777-200 with the specific customizations requested by United. I’m not sure about the B; it may just refer to a different variant. They are not updating the planes.
If I recall correctly the -222B is one of the pmUA or pmCO models, thought I don't remember which.
