I have been interacting with them using that email for the other usual things - confirming full names and flight times, upgrade options, dinner reservations, etc. I fear whoever mans the email isn’t empowered to extend the window, and so they just ignore it. EDIT — they just gave me a call and confirmed they can extend the cancellation window and will refund points if I’m not able to get there. Phew! Thanks to those who wisely suggested this would be the case! 😀
Glad to hear this is the case! I've reached out as well, but I assume I'll get the same response.
By the way, I was able to find a flight from LHR to MLE via BA which was reasonably price. I went ahead and booked it. It appears the troubling part is finding flights ex-MLE. Anything to Europe is either not available or cash price is $2k+ just for economy.
