There are 2 AA flight options: LAX-DFW-MCO departs at 1:33PM (so transit is 2hrs and 48min) or the LAX-MIA-TPA departs 1:55 (transit of 3hrs 10min). Assuming that CX arrives on time, would a 2hr 48min transit be enough or would a safe bet to take the 3hr 10min one? I am AA PP and would ask the CX staff in MNL to through check my bags. I also have GE. I was told that the international baggage claim at TBIT is slow, so it becomes the bottleneck in terms of reclaiming bags. Would appreciate your insight which flight is safe to take. Thank you.
LAX is my home airport and with the exception extremely rare instances I never travel with checked bags, With Global Entry, it has never taken me longer than fifteen minutes to get from plane to curb at LAX. While bags are slow to get to the carousels at LAX, I doubt that it will take longer than an hour. In my opinion, with almost three hours, either connection is safe if your flight from HKG arrives on time. In the event that CX does not check your bags all the way through to your destination, AA cutoff for checking bags at LAX is 45 minutes and it should take you no longer than five minutes to get from TBIT to the AA check-in counters in T4.
