Currently, the return leg of SFO/SIN is performed by the same aircraft as the outbound flight.
As for replacing B777s, it’s likely going to be decided on which aircraft is fit for purpose.
From what I can tell from information leaked that the 77E fleet will be leaving SFO entirely and will serve out the rest of its useful years mostly at EWR/IAD. Already seeing some of that. This new High J 789 fleet will assist in this as it replaces existing 789s on UA's longest routes, where they no longer have to consider blocking seats or carrying little to no cargo. I listed in an earlier post of routes I speculated that will be flown by this aircraft in the future. Except for SFO/LAX-LHR and potentially another SFO-Europe route like SFO-ZRH, maybe that goes year-round, I would anticipate most of the routes to be flown by this aircraft to be longer than 6200 nm. I am not counting repositioning routes on IAD/EWR-LAX/SFO where this aircraft could be making an appearance.
