If you want to upgrade a BA flight with AA points, you can do this but need to be on a full coach or PE fare (Y or W), and the upgrade will be to the next class up so if you want BA biz, you'd need to be in full fare PE(W).
These upgrades are no longer offered, they went away at the same time as the miles/co-pay upgrades.
