Just as a short update, I had a recent rental with Hertz GCM again, and it went smoothly once more. Office was well-staffed and I did not have to wait long for my car to be pulled up from the off-site storage. For my "Standard Elite Van" (Kia Carnival or Similar) reservation, I was actually given a 9-passenger configuration Hyundai Staria, which I think is technically an upgrade. The vehicle was relatively new and had only 9000 miles on it, but unfortunately was a relatively base/poverty spec version. It seems Hertz ordered these in the "base" trim which doesn't even get you a touch screen radio or tinted windows, but other agencies ordered them in "GLS" or "GLS+" trims which get you a (much needed) backup camera among other nicer features. Obviously no one is driving a lot in Grand Cayman but the camera especially was missed on such a large vehicle. The easiest way to tell is if the van has a painted or plastic front fascia. At least it had rear parking sensors. I suggest checking your credit card insurance as some North American cards do not cover vans with seating capacity above 8 or 9. The return was a bit chaotic with a lot of cars coming in at once and no open Hertz parking spaces, but I just parked in an open spot nearby, walked in and handed them the keys, and went on my way. I do also suggest full video walkarounds at both pickup and drop-off as many of the vehicles will have tons of little nicks and dings.
