We just experienced MXP so I can tell you on departure there - the equipment looks to be the same. Most gates are labelled for EU use; others (to the left side) were for those of us with the other egate appropriate passports who might then be required to get the passport stamp prior to leaving. Just means we had one more step to take - and the personnel were stationed appropriately for this. Entrance in MXP was a mess (kiosks mostly not working, long lines at all the egates) but the departure didn't take very long at all.

Apologies if I haven't answered the correct question - this was our first EES experience (American passports, fyi - and on entry, the kiosk worked for me but not my husband, but we both had the same experience at the egate )
