But it doesn’t matter, they follow the language in the T&Cs. That’s what happens, regardless of the poor/non-existent disclosure on the reservation page.
You can fight the credit card charge but I wouldn’t expect to win. Similar with Marriott.

It all seems kind of circular though. The language in the T&C's says they can charge you if you "don't follow" the cancellation policy. The cancellation policy is that language about forfeiting the deposit. So what part of that would I not be following, such that the T&Cs would allow the charge? If that's all it's based on, it's pretty hard to see how they'd have any right to charge cash.
