you are right that the wording is incorrect.
But it doesn’t matter, they follow the language in the T&Cs. That’s what happens, regardless of the poor/non-existent disclosure on the reservation page.
You can fight the credit card charge but I wouldn’t expect to win. Similar with Marriott.
