I'm in Hong Kong, my return business flight to London via Doha was cancelled yesterday when at the airport at 1 hrs 35 mins after it was due to depart. I was due to fly QR Airways from HKG to Doha the get a connecting flight to LHR, was advised at the boarding gate to rebook and claim travel insurance. The staff said they could help in the departure hall after we picked up our checked baggage, it was about 9pm local time before our luggage came off the carousel. The QR service desk was full as well as the BA desk, the OTA stated that I had to contact the airline for rebooking or they can give a refund for the cancelled flights, I managed to book a CX J flight (to cancel it was £180) back for more than my original return flight costs, then I booked a hotel stayed until my flight back on Monday. The Qatar app and website did not give an option of rebooking only to contact them on a Doha number, the BA Live Chat I need to contact the OTA for rebooking, at 1:42am I was 214 in the Live Chat queue after 60 min wait they said they can only refund and the airlines had the power to rebook. I can't see Qatar ever getting me home as everything goes through Doha, BA only take calls during their UK work times 8am to 10pm. Travel insurance will probably not pay for anything under the cancellation due to war, but any advice would be appreciated.
