MAD departure in February and the line minder was telling everybody to use the kiosk first. Not really sure why. But I used it and it immediately told me to proceed to the eGate which was a long, snaking line of people most of whom either hadn't been to the kiosk or didn't know how to use the eGates so the eGates were giving them red "X". The eGate worked for me and I got my passport stamped out (required).
