There's a post on the other thread from someone stuck in Dubai and who says their travel insurance won't pay out for a hotel because of war. I was surprised at that. Surely insurance would pay out if you travel to a region at a time when it's fine by the FCO, but then a conflict breaks out while you are there? Ive always assuned that provided FCO advice is OK at the time I booked and travelled, my insurance would cover me if things went pear shaped and I got stuck somewhere?
Understandably insurers are wary of providing cover in situations that might bankrupt them. Nuclear and war are the two main scenarios in this area. Provided the policy has a blanket war exclusion then, rightly or wrongly, no insurance cover would be available.
