A bigger question is that of what actually counts as a country or territory. Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man? I think so. Greenland? Possibly. Svalbard? The app I use to keep track of my travels says so, but I'm not so sure. And what about countries that no longer exist? I don't count them, but perhaps I should. As an idealistic youth, I was deported from Paraguay in the 1980s after a night in the cells. I have no wish to return so with you on that (as well as the train to Monaco)
On what counts as visiting a country, I try and see it the other way around if I understand you correctly. Although I’d say this is definitely a “nice to have” approach.
But I only “properly” counted my adopted home country of the Netherlands when I’d visited and overnighted in all the Dutch Caribbean nations and the overseas municipalities. All were worth the time except maybe Aruba lol
Presently slowly visiting my remaining British Oversea Territories Tristan da Cunha currently presents challenges for a land based overnight but am working on it.
