I must live in another dimension, as I am unable to redeem on the routes where I earn my points. TYO/ICN -BKK/SIN. If there is availability it is often only in Y and on some long and disjointed routes. Yes, I get it Tokyo is a popular and busy route. It is also rather expensive in J. However, that's where I fly. I have made 3 redemptions in the last 3 months for family members, all in Y on the YYZ-YUL corridor. I used my priority redemptions before they expired. Without the discount, AP was asking 15,000-40,000 each direction + $100 each RT. I did 3 redemptions for a total of of approx 62,000 + $300. Not a good value, but I would have lost the PRs by next month and I had points just sitting gathering dust. I really don't care about Aeroplan miles now since they are so devalued and the additional charges are just a cash grab. I got rid of my "premium" card sometime ago and stick with the basic no fee Aeroplan card. I don't redeem enough to use up the additional miles I earn each year anyway.
