I calculated it using the Mennens formula: fare paid divided by distance (1750/6800 = 0.257) multiplied by 800 for distance between YYZ and YQB, times 75% (being the amount of compensation owed for long haul) = roughly 150. This was established by Mennens vs Emirates in 2016 as the formula to be used to calculate the compensation owed.
I do think the Regulation applies regardless of how the downgrade occurs. The fact that it is an aircraft swap has no bearing on the fact that I am now flying in Y instead of J… indeed the reservation now shows Economy instead of Business.
