First time flying OZ LAX-ICN in Y (was booked on UA ticket but I cannot select seats on UA).

I am *G not that it really matters but seat assignment on that flight just shows 1 middle seat left (free of charge) plus a very limited bunch of paid options.
Does OZ block seats until OLCI? A bit confused on check-in and seats, so at T-48 (or T-72, T-24 not sure) does the seat assignment map change at all? What's the best way to approach this to get at least an aisle seat?
