Many established flying couples opt to sit in the window seats one in front of the other. AY J is very much a solo experience and even when it isn't you can talk over the seat back.
Based on my limited experience the difference between the front cabin and rear cabin is that the latter is usually more quiet and service may be less attentive and swift. On a day flight I would expect that to matter more than absolute quietness.
I share your experience of the regular footwell being too small. Thus I'm also interested in any answers to center bulkhead footwell vs window bulkhead footwell question.
