I think we're just going to agree to disagree. WJ's decision to pull out of Hamilton was to compete head-to-head with AC, who were bankrupt. And you're right, they had little choice. If you want to compete, you have to go to YYZ. Who in their right mind would use YHM and lose the market of the 4+ million people who lives east of Oakville?
Airlines have come and gone over the years out of YHM. US Airways used to have shuttle service to Philadelphia. There was an airline operating to Montreal and Ottawa many years ago. All have stopped operating as people drove to Toronto.
I agree, there is always potential for charters. CanJet is currently flying to Orlando, St.Pete's and YOW. Sunquest and World of Vacations flies to two destinations in Cuba and Cancun. But I can never see YHM be viable for ongoing regular service. It will be only a matter of time before WJ pulls completely out of YHM.
I have hope for YHM though. If it can get good transportation links, more reliable airside services (runways and taxiways), expand its facilities, and market itself, YHM has great potential. In WS's heyday, YHM was operating at double its design capacity. Maybe YHM will be at the point in about 10 years where YYZ becomes like JFK and YHM becomes like LGA.
