Has anyone had United waive the miles plus miles expiration as a courtesy or exception? If so any suggestions or approach would be helpful.
Depending on when the miles expired, you are 7 years or more late in checking up on this. In 2019, miles no longer expired.
UA had a policy (see the wiki of this thread) that within 12 months of expiration, you could re-instate expired miles by doing 1 of a couple things. But no reports of such in the past 7 years.

But for over 7 years, you can ask, but I would not hold my breath.
